Concrete Demolition Anderson IN

Need to tear out one driveway, one sidewalk panel, one garage approach — without breaking the good slab next to it? We sawcut clean joint lines, score control breaks, and remove targeted sections. Adjacent concrete stays untouched. Most jobs are out and site cleared the same day, with concrete hauled to a recycling yard for RCA processing wherever facilities are available.

01 · Scope

What we tear out — and what we leave standing.

Concrete demolition isn't just "smash it and haul it." Hit the wrong slab the wrong way and the crack runs into the panel you wanted to keep. Selective demolition is surgical: cut clean lines, score control breaks, remove only what's coming out, protect everything else.

Sections we remove

  • Driveways — full or partial. Joint-line cut at the apron and garage slab so the keepers stay clean.
  • Sidewalks — single panels or full runs. Cut at expansion joints, lifted out in slabs.
  • Garage approaches & aprons — failed transitions between street, drive, and slab.
  • Patios & porches — selective sections or full removal.
  • Curb & gutter — targeted sections for repair or driveway install.
  • Interior slabs — garage floors, basement floors, warehouse pours.

What we don't do here

Foundation walls, structural footers, and full-building demo live on different pages — see Foundation Demolition and Sawcutting & Scoring. This page is selective slab and flatwork demo.

02 · Method

Why a sawcut is non-negotiable.

Concrete is brittle. Hit it hard enough and the energy travels through the slab until it finds a weak point — usually a hairline crack or joint in your good concrete six feet away. A full-depth sawcut along the removal perimeter creates a free edge. Once the slab is isolated, the breaker can work as aggressively as needed inside the cut line and the keepers don't feel a thing.

We cut at full slab depth — partial cuts are worse than no cut at all because they create a stress concentrator that telegraphs cracks downward into the keepers. Reinforcement gets cut with the slab. Pulling rebar through a partial cut tears the adjacent panel. We grind any exposed dowels flush before the new pour.

Score control breaks

For interior or thin reinforced slabs, we score a 4-foot grid into the surface, then snap each panel free with a skid steer. Cleaner than a hammer, faster than a full sawcut, and the score lines double as lift points.

When we use what equipment

  • Walk-behind saw with diamond blade for the perimeter cut — clean, controlled, dust-suppressed with cutting water.
  • Score-and-snap for thin reinforced slabs — score in a 4-foot grid, lift in panels with a skid steer.
  • Hydraulic breaker for thick or heavily reinforced slabs — operator stays 12" inside the cut line at all times.
  • Hand chipping for final edge dressing — leaves a clean vertical face the new pour can dowel into.

05 · Local Notes

Permits and noise across the region.

Anderson: Construction noise ordinance limits demo work to 7 AM – 6 PM weekdays. ROW Excavation Permits required if removal touches the public right-of-way (apron, curb, sidewalk).

Carmel & Fishers: Dust-control plans required on commercial demo. We pre-wet, use cutting water, and stage hauling to minimize tracking onto streets. HOA approval handled separately. Carmel's 20-ft driveway-width limit applies to any driveway demo + replacement scope.

Noblesville: Old Town historic district has additional review for visible exterior demo. We submit photos and scope upfront.

Pendleton: Smaller scope, fewer restrictions, but I-69 corridor work crews regularly book us for staged removals.

06 · FAQ

Common questions about concrete demolition.

Will you damage the concrete I'm keeping?
No — that's the whole point of sawcutting first. The diamond-blade cut severs the structural connection between the removal section and the adjacent slab before any breaker touches it. We stay 12 inches inside the cut line with the hydraulic breaker and work toward the center of the removal zone. Adjacent slabs stay intact.
Can you cut and remove reinforced concrete with rebar?
Yes. Rebar is cut at the sawcut line with an angle grinder or bolt cutters before breaking begins. Reinforced slabs take slightly longer to break and haul because the mesh holds pieces together, but the procedure is the same. We bring the right size hydraulic breaker for the slab thickness and reinforcement density.
How long does a typical residential removal take?
A standard single-car driveway (400–500 sq ft) is removed and site-cleared in one day. Larger driveways or staged commercial removals may run two days. We give a firm schedule at the quote — not a window.
What happens to the concrete debris?
It goes to a recycling yard for crushing into recycled concrete aggregate (RCA), which is used as road subbase and fill. Most demolished concrete in our area is recycled rather than landfilled when a recycling facility is reachable from the job site. We haul clean — no mixed loads with dirt or organics that would downgrade the material.
Do I need a permit to remove concrete in Anderson or Carmel?
In Anderson, a ROW Excavation Permit is required only if the removal touches the public right-of-way — the apron, curb line, or public sidewalk. Purely on-property work (driveway, patio, garage floor) typically does not require a permit. In Carmel and Fishers, commercial demolition usually requires a permit and a dust-control plan. We pull every permit as part of the project scope.
